You might want to ask why is sleeping so important. When you are asleep, certain hormones are released that helps to control the effective functioning of the body. One of these hormones that are triggered by sleep is melatonin which I have mentioned in my previous post. This hormone is very essential in that it sets your circadian rhythms so your body knows when to sleep and it also helps you to wake up in the morning.
Having a good night's sleep improves the chances of your body to produce the right amount of melatonin, but what if you are having problems getting sleep in the first place? Insomnia affects your appearance in many ways and can literally be a nightmare for you. There are many things that can cause insomnia, it could be as a result of worry and stress. Some substances are also capable of depriving you of sleep, these substances range from drugs, drinks, and foods that you eat. What you need to do is to start practicing excellent sleeping habits, which has to start from the day by making sure you get a dose of sunshine in the morning when you wake up before ten in the morning, even if it is only just ten minutes. Make sure you do exercise daily, preferably in the morning. Remember to always have a warm bath at least one hour before bed and try as much as you can to avoid coffee after three in the afternoon. There are certain foods that promote a more restful night's sleep which helps to release sleep-inducing hormones. This includes milk, cottage cheese, plain yogurt, soybean, seafood, turkey, whole grains, beans, brown rice, lentils, eggs and sunflower seeds. Source: Debbypetersblog

The principle of eating lots of meals throughout a day was designed to speed up metabolism so they could eat lots of food and burn it off faster. The ideology of if you never give your body the chance to be hungry, it will store less fat as there's no need for it to save fat if your body never experiences a hint of starvation is old fashioned.
Although this method does speed up your rate of metabolism, this well-known nutritionist's theory is flawed. The major problem of consuming lots of food is that it also speeds up the aging process. On the other hand, several studies carried out by scientists have revealed that eating less food helps a person to live longer, delays the aging process and also reduces the risk of cancer. One other explanation has been that eating less increases the production of a hormone that tends to slow the aging process which is known as melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone that is mostly released during sleep by the pineal gland in the brain at night. Failure of the body to produce adequate melatonin can result in the following consequences; aging sets in, difficulty falling asleep at night, waking up after eight hours of sleep, irregular periods, and early menopause. In recent studies, scientists have discovered a way to influence how much melatonin is released as age which does not involve the use of any synthetic drugs. So it is possible to have melatonin secretions at any age. Studies carried out on rats and monkeys have revealed that sensible calorie restrictions not only improve melatonin production in aging animals but also reduces body fat. However, don't get too carried away and put yourself in a 3-month calorie- restricted diet and then expect amazing melatonin levels and long- life. Scientists have found that you have to eat a reasonable amount of food as a way of life to get a reduced risk of cancer or a tremendous melatonin boost and long-term anti-aging rewards. In today's world, most of the time we eat the wrong type of fats which is capable of decreasing our performance and leave us not looking so good. However, eating the right type of fats can make your skin to look fantastic. As a matter of fact, certain fats are moisturizing to your skin. They do this from the inside out which in most cases are more effective than the most luxurious skin cream.
Fats are essential in your diet to make powerful hormone-like chemicals called prostaglandins. This chemical is made by your body and they are responsible for the effective functioning of the heart, blood vessels, hormones, your cells and your skin's appearance. Omega-3 is another type of day that is very beneficial to the body in a number of ways. It converts to eicosapentaenoic acid better known as EPA. This is capable of decreasing inflammation and also helps to improve the skin's moisture. Apart from this, Omega-3 also helps to normalize blood pressure and it is also beneficial for cardiovascular health and is capable of reducing the risk of certain cancers. It is pertinent to note however that the right type of fat can literarily moisturize your skin from inside out. Examples of such foods are evening promise oil, oily fish, and flaxseeds which is rich in omega-3. In order to stay healthy, you must limit processed foods, saturated fats, dairy foods, and sugary foods. Take less of red meat, instead eat oily deep sea fish like sardines and trouts as they are the best choices since they promote less acid production than the other omega-3 rich fish and use extra virgin olive oil when cooking. |
